Lebanon Kentucky Indoor Studio Senior Session | Michelle Hardin

Michelle Hardin's Indoor Studio Senior Session in Lebanon Kentucky | Kentucky Senior Photographer Rebecca Beatty

This year my Kentucky Belles have been some of the best girls I have had the pleasure of working with! And that includes this beauty!

Michelle was all for it when I mentioned doing indoor sessions! She was the girl that knew how she wanted her hair, how she wanted her makeup, and knew just how she was going to look.

When I first read Michelle's application to be a Kentucky Belle, she mentioned how she loved rock music and her ultimate dream goal was to be a band manager for a rock band. She wanted to hear great music, travel it, and just wanting to create an adventure.

Speaking of music, her outfits SCREAMED rocker chick with a hint of her southern roots! Between rock band, graphic tees, the boots, and the flannel jacket, this girl rocked -ha! no pun intended- her studio session!

If you love Guns N' Roses, Lynyrd Skynyrd, or Michelle, then check out her session below!

Something that I started this year was indoor portrait sessions. I always believe that if you want to be a better photographer than you need to be able to challenge yourself in different settings that you may face.

This challenge for me today was an indoor session using off camera flash.

To me, off camera flash is hard BUT! Once you get the hang of it, I promise it's so easy!

When I shoot with OCF (off camera flash) I have all my settings set up manually just like my camera. Even though shooting Auto is completely fine, with using manual settings I can change the way the lighting looks in the images.

Not only having my speedlites set in a manual mode, but having my camera settings in manual, again allows me the creative freedom in having my images look natural or dramatic.

Enough about the techie info! Let's get down to the beautiful girl in front of the camera! I had the pleasure of taking Katie's senior pictures (which you can view here) so when I posted a model call for seniors to have an indoor session, she immediately was interested!

Doing just a simple outfit, we captured her sweet and kind personality in minutes!

Check out how gorgeous Katie is during this indoor senior session!

It's not every day a senior wants to combine her session with her best friend, but I was so happy to work with Tiffany and Kelly for their last spring session!

But this wasn't just any session. This year my hometown (as well as Tiffany + Kelly's hometown) have went through a lot of losses and what hit these two the hardest was the lost of their closest friend.

So even though we are celebrating their last semester in high school, the first part of their session was a dedication.

Check out how amazing this shoot went and make sure to leave some love!

This is such an emotional session for me. I have worked with Savannah since her freshman year of high school!! So as her final send off before her last full session with me, we shot some indoor cheer pictures!!

Talk about growth but talk about love!! I am so proud of this girl and can't wait to see her at her first Tiger game!!

The one thing I tried this year that challenged myself, my knowledge of my camera, and off camera flash skills was shooting a few sessions indoors. Now normally I am TERRIFIED of shooting indoors, but I really got tired of the nasty weather that we experienced here in Kentucky.

So many sessions were ruined and cancelled because of cold weather, rainy weather, just bad weather in general! So I wanted to see if indoor sessions was something that I wanted to offer to this next upcoming class.

And they totally are!

Right now my idea is to offer a collection that is strictly outdoor locations while the second collection offers one indoor location and then one outdoor!

What do you think? As a senior would you like that?

Before you answer, scroll down below and check out this mini indoor session I did with my 2018 senior from Nelson County Emma!

Before the questions are asked lol yes this is a late fall session but here in Kentucky our Fall weather can last all the way up until May lol. So running a tad bit behind on this Southern Belle's fall session we both wanted something different for her. Going through a bit of a grunge stage, we wanted to go outside of our comfort zones and shoot at places that she loved but also most people don't think would make for pretty spots.

Like a library. The lighting is not the best, but the endless opportunities of places to pose next to, or items to use as props, just goes on and on.

Or! The fact that we saw a bunch of pallets randomly sitting next to a shopping center, we knew we had to shoot there too!

I could go on and on about locations that people normally don't think would be pretty for pictures, but instead scroll down below and check out some of my favorites from Jaci's Fall Session!

Snow has finally made it's appearance here in good ole Kentucky! And when it snows, it's time for some senior portraits!! Being one of the few seniors that was wanting snow portraits, Tiffany and I met up around some open land that most people would over look to start her winter session. However! We never thought that after the first day of snow, it would be even more cold and even more difficult to stay focus and WARM! Lol!

But no matter how much cold weather we face, we was able to get some beautiful shots! Check out just a few of my favorite shots from this gorgeous winter session!

With the winter sessions I did have, I got to work with one of my favorite red head Kentucky Belle reps! The lovely Miss. Kalei Cox!

No matter what crazy ideas I have (like getting in a prom dress in 12 degree weather or picking up snow with no gloves on in 12 degree weather) Kalei is one that I know that's up for the challenge. So instead of traveling on some slippery roads, we just shot at her house and can we just talk about how gorgeous Kalei's backyard is?

Open fields, a lake, and a bunch of snow! Nothing gets better than that!

If you love snow and you love my fiesty red head Kentucky Belle like I do, than check out Kalei's winter session below!

With the cold winter weather we're having it makes me think of all the cold and miserable (yes I said miserable because I am not a fan of the cold.) So I wanted to blog about one of my 2018 Kentucky Belle's winter session!

On this blog is the one and only, Washington County's own Michelle! This spunky -once shy- talkative individual wanted to take her winter pictures...without the snow.

Now normally, seniors who are wanting winter sessions want snow with it, so when Michelle said no that it was cold enough, I wasn't going to argue.

Shooting at Maker's Mark during the winter months, is insanely popular! The decorations, the people, it's all amazing! There's already so much history at this location so with the winter decorations it adds so much more character to the place!

What was even more awesome with Michelle's winter session, is we found new little spots at this popular location. We shot closer to the Vistor's Center as well as the fields surronding Maker's Mark.

If you want to see how much fun and the new little spots we found, check out the images below!

This fall was one of my busiest that I have had in years. For the month of October I had close to forty sessions! And that was split between sweethearts, seniors, and weddings! Speaking of busy fall months and seniors, I was so thrilled to work with Clarissa!!

This Washington County Senior was AMAZE BALLS!! LITERALLY!! We started off at Jim Beam Distillery in Cleremont KY where we actually shot during a busy day O_O so you know what that means, a lot of dipping and dodging to make sure that no one was going to get in the pictures lol!

Now let me just clarify something. If you have never worked with me, then you will not know, that sometimes....I tend to just pull over to the side of the road and say "WE'RE SHOOTING HERE!"

After we left Jim Beam, I saw this perfect field of just tall, golden grass that made me think of Prairie grass. So me being me, I pulled over and told Clarissa this was going to be awesome to trust me!

I did this a few more times during her session lol!

But y'all I can't express how beautiful the golden light was during the last bit of her session. Usually I feel like I'm in a rush because golden hour doesn't stay as long as we want, but during this session, it lasted forever!

Check out this gorgeous 2018 senior's fall session and expierence the gorgeous golden hour shots! <3
